The Church of St Peter and St Paul went up on Chingford Green in 1844, on what had been forest land, to replace the old parish church of All Saints, which had fallen into decay; it was enlarged and re-dedicated in 1903.
The Green and its listed buildings
The Green is now a small conservation area of about 7.6 hectares. It holds seven listed buildings: the church, which is Grade II*, its two sets of churchyard gates, the war memorial, the Bull and Crown pub, Carbis Cottage, and the Catholic church of Our Lady of Grace and St Teresa of Avila. The remains of the old King's Head's stable block, from an early 18th-century pub, still overlook the Green. The council last reviewed the area in 2020-21.

Waltham Forest's wards were redrawn for the May 2022 elections. Chingford Green keeps its name and now takes in the whole town centre, with Whitehall Road as the line between it and the new Hatch Lane and Highams Park North ward.
Those are 2021 Census figures for the 4,707 households in the ward on its new lines. Of Chingford's six wards, Chingford Green has the highest share owning outright and the highest share in a detached house (6.2%). Owning outright often follows years in the same house, so the cooker may have cooked for the same family for a long time. A quarter of households (25.5%) are in purpose-built flats, and 17.8% rent privately.

Age does not change the method. Racks, trays and side runners come out and are soaked and cleaned separately, the door is split where its design allows, and the cavity and glass are degreased by hand indoors, on dust sheets.
Parking near the Green
East of the Green, towards the station, Cart Lane, Queen's Grove Road and Garfield Road were in the North Chingford parking zone when it began as a trial in 2013. The council's 2014 order set its permit hours at 10am to 4pm, Monday to Friday, and the signs on the street show the hours in force now. If you live there, the van needs a visitor permit in those hours. Elsewhere, look at the signs where your road begins: some streets in the borough are permit-only past a sign at the turning, with no bays painted. All we need is somewhere to park.

Not on the council's map since 2022: it is Hatch Lane and Highams Park North. The price list is the same either side of the road.
How long does a two-oven AGA take?

Is a double oven much longer than a single?
A little. A single takes about 90 minutes and a double about 2 hours, and each is lit and checked with you at the end.
