Chigwell School was founded in 1629 by Samuel Harsnett, Archbishop of York, and it started with sixteen poor, clever scholars on ground that now runs to about 100 acres between Epping Forest and Hainault Forest. Large houses, and the cookers that go in them
The population is somewhere around 17,500 and the stock is largely big suburban detached, with Manor Road, Hainault Road and the High Road named most often. Chigwell Row, on the eastern side of the parish against Hainault Forest Country Park, runs more to period cottages, larger detached houses and the occasional equestrian plot. Kitchens on that scale tend towards a 90cm range rather than a builder's single, and a 90cm range in a Manor Road kitchen is £114.
