Cheshunt's first glasshouses went up in 1806, and by 1967 the area had a quarter of all the glasshouses in the country. Most were redundant by the end of the 1970s, and many of the sites were built over with houses. The Cheshunt built-up area had 43,680 residents at the 2021 Census.

Postwar council houses may well have a freestanding cooker or a built-under single, while a detached house in Goffs Oak is more likely to have a double or a range. Whatever the cooker, the removable metal (racks, shelves, side runners) comes out and is soaked and cleaned separately, and the inside of the oven, the fan cover and the glass are worked by hand.
New flats at Cheshunt Lakeside and Brookfield
Tesco had its head office in Cheshunt from 1973 until 2016.
