The East Surrey Bus Company opened a garage at Chelsham on 21 January 1925 with eight buses in it. By 1931 it held 24, and London Transport later took it over and stabled Green Line coaches there. It closed on 29 June 1990, demolition started that August, and a Sainsbury's opened on the site in September 1994.

Chelsham is a former civil parish, abolished in 1969 and merged into Chelsham and Farleigh, in the Tandridge district. It sits 15.3 miles from London and 3 miles from Oxted. St Leonard's is 13th-century, largely rebuilt in the 19th and restored in 1871 in bath stone, and it was put up to serve the farms rather than a village, so it still stands in fields at the meeting of the parish roads and bridleways. Its calendar keeps Plough Sunday. Bull Green, the triangular green, is looked after by the parish council.
A hospital that left only its water tower
Warlingham Park Hospital opened in 1903 as Croydon Mental Hospital, and laying out the grounds and putting up the buildings cost £200,000 at the time. The central water tower is the one piece still standing. Older ground than that: there are foundations and walls of a Romano-British villa near Chelsham Court Farm, and the parish once held three separate manors, Chelsham Watervile, Chelsham Court and Rowholt.

Racks, shelves, trays and side runners, into a heated dip tank. The cavity, fan cover and door glass are degreased by hand indoors with non-caustic products, so the kitchen is not left smelling of chemicals when we go.

A two-oven AGA is £143 and needs to be off and cold beforehand, so turn it down the night before if you can.
