Eleven houses on Cheyne Row, Nos. 16-36, were built on land Lord Cheyne leased in 1708; the date is marked on a tablet on No. 16. Model dwellings and council flats off the King's Road
Flats are the norm all the same. North of the King's Road, the William Sutton Trust built 14 red-brick blocks of model dwellings round Cale Street; when they were finished in 1913 they had 674 homes and housed 2,200 people, according to the Victoria County History. The estate now belongs to Clarion Housing, which refurbished four of the blocks in a project that ended in 2024. Chelsea's own council added Chelsea Manor Buildings in 1939, home to 422 people.

Three sets of parking hours near the Old Town Hall
The council's residents' parking map (June 2026) splits central Chelsea three ways within a few minutes' walk of the Old Town Hall on the King's Road. West of Sydney Street and Oakley Street, round Old Church Street, Cheyne Row and Carlyle Square, residents' bays are controlled 8.30am to 10pm on weekdays and to 6.30pm on Saturdays. East of them, round Elystan Street, Smith Street and Royal Avenue, the same hours apply plus 1pm to 5pm on Sundays. Nearer the river, round Royal Hospital Road, Tite Street and Christchurch Street, Saturday controls stop at 1.30pm. While they run, the van uses a pay-by-phone bay. Can you come on a Sunday?
Yes, at the weekday price. Pay-by-phone bays are free on Sundays, but round Elystan Street and Smith Street residents' bays are controlled from 1pm to 5pm, so before 1pm those bays are open to anyone.
I live on an upper floor of a mansion block. Should I say so?
Yes, when you book. Tell us the floor and whether there is a lift, and we allow the time for it.
How long does a 90cm range take?
Two to three hours on site, depending on whether it has one oven or two and how hard the grease has baked on.
