The estate along Grosvenor Road
The Churchill Gardens estate lies between Lupus Street and Grosvenor Road. The council's audit says Powell and Moya's competition-winning scheme of 1946 gave 1,661 dwellings on 31 acres, built as 36 blocks in four phases. About 16% of them are flats in slabs of nine to eleven storeys; most of the rest are maisonettes and flats in blocks of three, four and five storeys. The first-phase blocks have glazed staircases standing out from the walls, and the later ones switched to gallery access so that more small flats would fit.
Older homes survive on the riverfront. Nos. 105-109 Grosvenor Road began as Thomas Parade, put up after a stone merchant, John Johnson, leased the land around 1817; the stucco terrace is listed Grade II. Until 1983 the estate was warmed by waste heat pumped through a tunnel from Battersea Power Station, across the water.
For the oven, the block type decides the way up to the kitchen. In a tall slab there is a lift; in a maisonette or a five-storey block it may be a stair. Either way the racks, trays and side runners come out and are soaked and cleaned separately, while the cavity, fan cover and door glass are degreased by hand in your kitchen, over dust sheets.

Parking round Churchill Gardens
Westminster says its on-street resident permits are not valid on council-managed housing estates, and its parking hours and tariffs table does not apply there, so the usual option is a pay-to-park bay on the streets round the estate. Those streets are in zone A (Knightsbridge, Belgravia and Pimlico), and the council's map places Lupus Street and the estate in sub-zone A1, where paid bays and single yellow lines are controlled 8.30am to 6.30pm, Monday to Friday, under the tariffs in force from 2 March 2026. There is no visitor permit to borrow in Westminster, so a weekend booking, at the weekday price, is the easy one.
