In 1922 this stretch of Malden Road was widened and became The Broadway, and the Old Cottage, once part of the Cheam Brewery, stood in the way. The council saved it with the help of Charles Marshall, an architect and Cheam historian: the timber frame was taken apart by removing its original wooden pins, then put back up on its present site.
Cheam Village, a conservation area since 1970
The village centre is the crossroads where the roads from Sutton, North Cheam, South Cheam and Ewell meet. Sutton made it a conservation area in 1970, taking in old parkland, houses of many periods and the mock-Tudor shopping parades with their timber detailing and leaded lights. Historic England dates it to about 1500: a timber-framed house with a crown-post roof, its close-studded walls hidden under painted weatherboarding added in the 18th century. It was listed at Grade II* on 28 August 1953. The Killick family lived there from 1741 until 1963, when the borough bought it, and it now opens as a museum with its lower kitchen on show.

Permit hours on Park Lane, Cheam
Park Lane has a parking zone of its own. Sutton's parking checker lists the Park Lane, Cheam controlled parking zone, CH1, as operating from 1 December 2025, Monday to Saturday from 8am to 6.30pm, for the odd numbers 1 to 9 and 13 to 29 only. A Sunday visit falls outside those hours and costs the same as a weekday. The council's two car parks near the village centre, on Kingsway Road and by Cheam Library, are open every day from 8am to 10pm. Elsewhere, read the signs on your road and tell us what they say, because the team needs a legal space near the door.

How long should I keep free for a double oven?
About 2 hours. A single takes about 90 minutes, and either way the oven is heated at the end so you can look inside before we leave.
Do you clean the hob as well?
Yes, at the same visit. A gas hob is £28 and a ceramic hob £23, added to the oven price.

Arrived promptly and did a great job cleaning the oven, hob and extractor. They look like new now and for a very reasonable price too.
Very satisfied with the service. They were slightly late at first but I got a call from customer service to let me know, and it was all fine. The oven man, as he called himself, arrived and worked very hard for a couple of hours. My oven now looks like it has never been used.
