Lewis Vulliamy built a chapel of ease here in 1830 and dedicated it to St John, and the reason it did not survive tells you what happened to the housing: it was pulled down and replaced in 1926 by the St John's church standing now, put up because the suburbs had arrived and the old chapel was too small for them.
