Castle Green is named after Ripple Castle, a house with a castellated front built around 1800 near the south end of what is now Castle Road, and gone by the late 1930s. The name is now also on the Castle Green centre on Gale Street, opened in 2005, which puts the Jo Richardson Community School, a library, a theatre and sports facilities on one site.
Interwar houses along Gale Street
Gale Street is old: it is recorded in 1433, and for part of its length it formed the western edge of Dagenham parish. Between the wars Barking and Dagenham grew until they met here, and Castle Green counts as part of the Becontree estate, which the London County Council built between 1921 and 1935.
The houses are still mostly terraces. In the census area that the House of Commons Library calls Goresbrook and Scrattons Farm, which takes in Greenfield Gardens and part of Goresbrook Road, 57.7% of the 3,206 households lived in a terraced house in 2021, 25.4% in a semi and only 9.9% in a flat. A terrace of that period was usually built with a small back kitchen, and the cooker in it is often a freestanding one. A refitted kitchen may have a built-in single under the counter instead.
Goresbrook Village, from towers to houses
On Goresbrook Road, beside the A13, three tower blocks were approved in 1967: Bassett House, Dunmow House and Ingrave House, 282 flats in all, built with the Bison system. They have been pulled down. In their place Stitch designed 149 new homes, 97 of them with three bedrooms.

The price follows the appliance. A single, a double, a range and an AGA each have their own figure, and the one you are quoted on the phone does not change on the day.
The racks, trays and side runners come out and are soaked and cleaned separately. Indoors, with dust sheets down, the cavity, fan cover and door glass are worked by hand, and the door is split if its design allows.
Parking on Gale Street and Goresbrook Road
The council lists pay-by-phone bays on Gale Street outside Jo Richardson School and on Goresbrook Road outside the church and community centre. At its on-street pay-by-phone bays the first hour is free if booked through PayByPhone, with a four-hour limit and no return within two hours. A single takes about 90 minutes and a double about two hours, inside the four-hour limit, though time after the first hour is charged. On the side roads, read the signs at the end of your road; at Goresbrook Village about half of the houses have a parking space in front.

Often, yes. The cycle usually runs with the racks taken out and does not reach between the panes of the door glass; the hand clean covers the glass, and the door is split where its design allows.
