Castelnau is the A306, running 1.1 miles south from Hammersmith Bridge to Church Road, and its kitchens split hard by house type. The twenty pairs of classical villas at 91-125 Castelnau, built by Major Boileau in 1842 and Grade II listed since, have the floor space for a 90cm range; behind them the London County Council cottage estate of 640 houses, put up in 1926 on old market-garden land, runs to plain 60cm cookers and built-under doubles. Same postcode. A ten-minute walk apart.
The estate roads and the villas want different jobs
The estate roads carry the names of Deans of St Paul's who were lords of the manor of Barnes: Stillingfleet, Kentwode, Howsman, Alderbury, Everdon. Those are our end-of-tenancy calls, mostly. Up on Lonsdale Road, where the big Victorian houses front the river, and in the Edwardian flats at Castelnau Mansions, the work changes: more shelves, bigger trays, a longer soak in the tank.
Parking here is a two-hour window
Castelnau sits in Richmond's Zone B1, most of it controlled Monday to Friday, 10am to 12 noon only. Short, by London standards. It matters because the racks, shelves, trays and side runners get carried out to the tank in the van. Hammersmith Bridge has been shut to cars since April 2019, so we come in along Lonsdale Road from Chiswick Bridge, like the diverted buses.

A single takes about ninety minutes. A few of the Boileau villas kept a two-oven AGA in the back kitchen; if yours is one, read how we clean an AGA first, because the cooker has to be off and cold before we start.
Do I need to sort a parking permit?
Usually not. Outside 10am to 12 noon, Monday to Friday, the estate bays are free and time-limited. Inside it, a visitor permit or RingGo helps. Say so when you book and we will time the slot.
Can you do a rented flat before the check-out inventory?
Yes, and a good share of our Castelnau work is exactly that, off Stillingfleet and Howsman. Letting agents want clear glass and bare-metal racks. We leave a dated receipt for the clerk.
How long does the smell hang around?
There isn't one. Racks, shelves, trays and runners soak in the tank out in the van; the cavity, fan cover and door glass are degreased by hand with non-caustic products. The caustic gel that leaves a kitchen reeking for days is the thing we don't use. The oven is heat-tested before sign-off.
