Town hall, library and college on one street
Hendon's council put its buildings here. The Town Hall, designed by T. H. Watson, opened in 1901 and was extended at the back in 1929; Margaret Thatcher made her first appearance as Prime Minister there in 1979. The fire station followed in 1914 and the library in 1929. Barnet's conservation area runs north from Watford Way. Most of it is terraced houses, with six shops and a former pub; several listed buildings stand towards the southern end, some 18th and 19th-century houses survive close to the Watford Way junction, and a Victorian terrace at the northern end is locally listed. Parking near The Burroughs
The council describes The Burroughs as a busy route from Watford Way, congested at peak times. Two council car parks here are not much use for an oven clean: in 2021 The Burroughs car park was listed as for permit holders, with 24 resident and 20 business spaces, and Burroughs Gardens as pay and display, Monday to Saturday 9am to 5.30pm, with no tariff longer than 90 minutes. A single alone takes about that long, and the van stays put for all of it, so a bay on a side street works better, with one of your visitor permits if that street is in a zone.
