Bulphan has no conservation area and, in the council's words, no recognisable historic centre. Thurrock Council's rural settlement assessment of December 2023 describes a core of five streets around Church Road and Church Lane, with small hamlets spread round the edge of the old Bulphan Fen, which has long since been drained for arable farming.

Detached family houses are the homes most likely to have a double oven or a 90cm range cooker, and an older farmhouse kitchen may have an AGA.

Parking the van at a Bulphan house
No road in Bulphan appears on Thurrock Council's list of roads in each parking zone or area; the permit zones it lists are in Grays, Chadwell St Mary, Purfleet-on-Thames, South Ockendon, Stanford-le-Hope and Tilbury. Switch it off the night before so it has cooled by the morning, and keep the half day free. Racks and shelves still come out and are cleaned separately.
