The lane called Bull's Cross, north of the Turkey Brook, appears to follow the line of Ermine Street, the Roman road north out of London, and the hamlet beside it is first recorded in 1465.
Cottages on the old road north
Bull's Cross is one of three hamlets inside the Forty Hill Conservation Area, designated in 1968, with Forty Hill and Maiden's Bridge. Enfield's 2013 appraisal describes a compact row on the west side of the road around the Bullsmoor Lane junction: detached and semi-detached houses first, then tightly packed terraced cottages of the later 19th century in brown stock brick, mostly under slate roofs. The Pied Bull and The Orchards are older, 17th-century and timber-framed, and both are listed at Grade II; part of the Pied Bull once kennelled the hounds of the Enfield Chase hunt. The same conservation area takes in Capel Manor, built around 1755 and a horticultural college since 1968, and Myddelton House of 1818, home of the Lee Valley Regional Park Authority since 1972.
Cottage kitchens of that size are usually small, with a freestanding cooker or a built-in single. That suits the method: the cavity, the fan cover and the door glass are cleaned in the kitchen, by hand, while racks, trays and side runners come out and are soaked and cleaned separately.
Capel Road, Manor Court and the flats by the A10
Between the hamlet and the Great Cambridge Road are newer streets: Capel Road, Manor Court, Manor Farm Road and Bowles Green. The census puts them, with a few neighbouring roads, in two output areas that held 286 households in 2021. 92 of those lived in a purpose-built block of flats and 117 in a terraced house, and 119 rented from the council or a housing association.

Parking on Bull's Cross and Bullsmoor Lane
No controlled parking zone reaches Bull's Cross on the version of Enfield Council's zone map archived in December 2022, though zones can change and the signs on your road are the thing to check. The council's 2013 appraisal notes how close the cottages sit to the road, and recorded heavy traffic, lorries included, and many cars parked along Bullsmoor Lane, which was widened some time between 1914 and 1935. If there is a drive or a space off the lane near your door, tell us when you book.

How long does the oven take?
A single takes about 90 minutes, a double about two hours and a 90cm range two to three.
Can you do the hob at the same visit?
Yes: £28 for a gas hob and £23 for a ceramic one, on top of the oven price.
Can you come at the weekend?
Yes, seven days a week, and a Saturday or Sunday costs the same as a weekday. The same goes for neighbours in Clay Hill and Turkey Street.
