Manor House Drive is named after what it replaced: Brondesbury's manor house, whose grounds Humphry Repton landscaped for Lady Sarah Salusbury after she bought the house in 1789. It was pulled down in 1934, when the house and what was left of its grounds were sold for building.
From manor grounds to Manor House Drive
The road called Brondesbury Park began as the northern continuation of Salusbury Road, and it cut the manor house off from its entrance on Willesden Lane. By 1894 there were houses along its northern side and the old house had become a school; by 1901 the road reached Willesden Green. Aylestone Avenue and Milverton Road were laid out west of the house by 1920, and about 300 more homes went up nearby by 1931. In 1949 the Brondesbury district counted 1,300 houses and 261 flats, and the Victoria County History calls the district still the most expensive residential area in the borough.
A few detached houses remain. In the census area around Manor House Drive (Brent 030B), 11.6% of the 865 households lived in a detached house in 2021, against 7.4% across Brondesbury Park ward; 57.4% lived in a purpose-built block of flats and 41.6% owned their home.
Edwardian town houses towards Willesden
The western end was built on the fields of Mount Pleasant Farm. Brent's archive history says a housing slump around 1904 held up building on the Mount Pleasant estate, but by 1914 Brondesbury Park and Staverton Road were lined with substantial town houses. Brent's 2024 appraisal for the Willesden Green conservation area singles out 96 to 122 Brondesbury Park by the builders Callow and Wright, gabled red-brick houses with roughcast and half-timbering, the three-storey pairs at 155 to 169, and 1 to 11 Staverton Road by Brown and Humphreys.
A house of that size often has room in the kitchen for a 90cm range or an AGA; say which when you book, as both take longer than a built-in double. Racks, trays and side runners come out and are soaked and cleaned separately; the cavity, the fan cover and the door glass are degreased by hand indoors, on dust sheets, and the door is split where its design allows.

The price is set by the appliance, from a single oven up to a four-oven AGA, and it is fixed on the phone before the visit; a big kitchen does not change it.
Short permit hours in zone KS
On Brent's zone map most of Brondesbury Park, with Manor House Drive, Aylestone Avenue and Milverton Road, is in zone KS, which is controlled only from 10am to 3pm, Monday to Friday. Sidmouth Road and the end of Brondesbury Park nearest Willesden High Road are in a KS sub-zone with longer hours, 8am to 6.30pm on weekdays; Brent's list of zones gives that stretch as the High Road end up to No. 169. Staverton Road, at the High Road end, falls into other zones on the map, so read its signs. Brent's list gives no hours outside weekdays for KS, and the signs on your street have the final word.

Switch it off the night before so it has cooled by the morning. A two-oven AGA is £143 and a four-oven AGA £187; the AGA cleaning page explains the visit.
Will I need a visitor permit for the van on Manor House Drive?
Only for the part of the visit between 10am and 3pm on a weekday, when zone KS is controlled. Brent's list gives no weekend hours for KS, and weekends cost the same as weekdays; check the signs on your street.
Is Brondesbury Park the same place as Brondesbury?
They overlap. Brondesbury, which has its own page, is the older villa district to the east, around The Avenue and the Brondesbury conservation area. Brondesbury Park is the long road and the streets built on the manor house's land.
