Brompton Square, a long rectangle with a crescent at its north end, was laid out and built up between 1821 and 1835 under William Farlar, an ironmonger. The Survey of London calls the houses plain and urban: a stuccoed ground floor with three storeys above, on frontages of 16 to 18 feet that left room for only two windows each.
Narrow houses near the Oratory
Nearby, the Oratorians bought their site in November 1852. Their present church, designed by Herbert Gribble, was consecrated and opened in April 1884, and the front and the outer dome followed in 1890-96. Brompton Square, Egerton Terrace and Yeoman's Row share a Census area with it (Kensington and Chelsea 012B). In 2021 that area had 570 households: 55.1% rented privately, 34.9% owned, 27.8% had a terraced house and 49.0% lived in a purpose-built block.

Egerton Place came in the 1890s, its last six houses occupied by 1897.

Parking off Brompton Road
Brompton Road is part of Transport for London's road network, so the van uses the side streets. Those are Kensington and Chelsea's, and on the council's residents' parking map the streets round Brompton Square and Egerton Gardens have residents' bays controlled until 10pm on weekdays, until 6.30pm on Saturdays and from 1pm to 5pm on Sundays.
