The A21 shapes the working day here
Bromley Common is centred on the A21 itself, and that road is a red route from the M25 all the way up to the Lewisham boundary at Bromley Hill. Nobody stops on it. So the van goes onto a side street and the racks and trays walk to the tank from there, which is why the technician may ring to ask which end of the road you are on. The villas along Hastings Road went up after the second enclosure of the common in 1821, with a row of cottages on what is now Oakley Road.
Trinity Village and Keston Park are opposite problems
Trinity Village was laid out from 2010 by Asprey Homes and Ward Homes on the old Blue Circle sports ground. New-build kitchens, integrated single ovens, tight cavities, nothing to pull the appliance out into. Keston Park is the other extreme: a private gated estate of 140 acres, founded in 1923, with seven private roads and over 200 houses, some running to several thousand square feet. Houses on that scale are where a range cooker or a two-oven AGA turns up, and an AGA is £143 and most of a morning.
One ward holds a red route, a 2010 new-build village and a gated estate with its own private roads.
Keston Common sits between them, 55 hectares of it, a Site of Special Scientific Interest with three ponds dug in the early nineteenth century to feed Holwood House, and the houses backing onto it off Heathfield Road and Fishponds Road are the sort where the kitchen has been extended at least once.

Can you get through a gated entrance?
Yes, with the gate code or a call to the intercom. Tell us on the phone if the estate needs the visit logging with security first.
Why does the caustic stuff stay outside?
Because the tank is heated and it lives in the van. Indoors it is non-caustic products on the cavity, fan cover and door glass, done by hand, so the kitchen does not smell afterwards.
Does an AGA really take that much longer?
Yes. Cast iron holds grease differently and there is more of it to take apart, which is why the two-oven price is £143 rather than the £110 a domestic double costs.
Is there a call-out charge out here?
No. The price you are quoted on the phone is the price, and there is no premium-area surcharge for Keston Park or anywhere else.
