Brent Reservoir is a sheet of water with houses round it. Natural England's Brent Reservoir SSSI, notified on 15 July 1985, covers 69.37 hectares in Brent and Barnet, the reservoir and much of its shore, so the homes are on the edges: Kingsbury on the Brent side and West Hendon on the Barnet side.
Why the reservoir is called the Welsh Harp
The Regent's Canal Company had it dug from 1834, with William Hoof as contractor, to keep the Regent's and Grand Union canals supplied. The everyday name comes from a tavern near the Edgware Road. Under William Perkins Warner, landlord from the late 1850s, the Welsh Harp had pleasure gardens, a concert hall and, from 1870 to 1903, its own station on the Midland Railway. The original building was replaced in 1938, and that replacement was demolished in 1971 for the Staples Corner flyover.

Semis on the Kingsbury side of the water
Kinloch Drive and Wood Lane, NW9, are a few hundred metres from the water on the Brent side. The lane is far older than the houses on it: the Victoria County History says the road between Townsend Lane and Hendon, known as Wadlifs Lane in 1574, survives as Wood Lane. Kingsbury kept a rural look until the First World War and, in many parts of the parish, until the 1930s. Planning permission for building near Wood Lane was granted in 1926, and from 1931 to 1933 houses were going up in Kingsbury at more than 1,000 a year, mostly by private firms.
At the 2021 Census, Welsh Harp ward had 5,944 households. The semi-detached house was the commonest home, at 33.7%, ahead of purpose-built flats (25.8%) and terraces (19.2%). A 1930s semi has usually had its kitchen refitted at least once, so the oven might be a freestanding cooker, a built-in single under the worktop or a double at eye level. A single takes about 90 minutes, a double about two hours.
The ward is not all owner-occupied: 35.1% of households rented privately and 16.8% from the council or a housing association. Parking for the van near Kinloch Drive
The team needs somewhere to park for the whole visit. The racks, trays and side runners come out and are soaked and cleaned separately, while the cavity, fan cover and door glass are degreased by hand indoors.
