Brent Cross Shopping Centre opened on 2 March 1976 as the country's first out-of-town, American-style indoor shopping centre. Now people live here in numbers: Barnet Council's regeneration site says more than 1,000 people live in the first buildings of Brent Cross Town.
Brent Cross Town, phase one lived in
Brent Cross Town is a joint venture between Barnet Council and Related Argent between Hendon and Cricklewood, planned for up to 6,700 homes. Building started in 2020 and the first residents arrived in 2025. The council's regeneration site says the first residential buildings of phase one are complete, and the second phase will bring a new high street. Brent Cross West station, on the Thameslink line, opened in December 2023.

Railway cottages on Brent Terrace, new homes beside them
Brent Terrace is lined with railway cottages, over 100 of them along its half-mile stretch. Between it and Clitterhouse Crescent, Barnet Council and L&Q delivered 47 new homes in blocks named Platform, Signal and Pullman, the first residential buildings completed in the regeneration scheme, mainly for residents of the low-rise blocks of the Whitefield Estate. Residents of the estate's three towers, Whychcote Point, Clare Point and Norden Point, moved to Conductor House, 120 homes in Brent Cross Town. Demolition of the towers began in August 2025.
The Census caught the area before the new town filled. In 2021 the census area the House of Commons Library calls Brent Cross & Staples Corner had 2,614 households: 40.7% rented privately, 27.4% rented from the council or a housing association and 30.5% owned. A third (34.5%) lived in purpose-built flats and 23.5% in terraced houses.

The price follows the appliance, not the building: a single, a double, a range and an AGA each have one figure, and you hear it on the phone before the visit.
Parking controls that run seven days a week
Barnet Council put Brent Terrace, Clitterhouse Crescent, Clitterhouse Road and part of Claremont Road into zone BA as a trial on 20 March 2023 and made the zone permanent in March 2024. From 15 December 2025 a second trial added more streets, controlled 9am to 6pm every day of the week: Claremont Road, Prayle Grove, Marble Drive, Wallcote Avenue and Amber Grove (an extension of zone BA), and roads such as Cheviot Gardens, Pennine Drive and Mendip Drive (zone GG). The Transforming BX parking page says the council expects to share the final outcome of the trial by 23 October 2026, and the zones keep running under the trial order while it is considered. Pay-by-phone bays were provided in zone GG. The team needs somewhere to park for the whole visit, so tell us your road when you call.

Is Brent Cross NW2 or NW4?
Both. The shopping centre on Prince Charles Drive is NW4; Tilling Road, Marble Drive and Pearl Close, south of the North Circular, are NW2.
Does a weekend visit get round the parking hours?
Not in zones BA and GG, which are controlled on Saturdays and Sundays too. A weekend visit still costs the same as a weekday one.
Can the extractor hood in a new kitchen be done at the same visit?
Yes, it is £28 on top of the oven price. Tell us when you book so the time is allowed for it.
