In the census area that includes Ridgdale Street (Tower Hamlets 004I), 23.4% of households lived in a terraced house in 2021, against 10.9% across Bow East ward as a whole. A whole house has more room for a wide cooker than a flat kitchen does, whether a 90cm range or a 100cm one. The ovens on a range are cleaned like any other: shelves, trays and side runners come out and are soaked and cleaned separately, the cavities and door glass by hand indoors, on dust sheets.

Bow Road here is part of the A11, which is a Transport for London red route, so the lines and signs on it decide where anything can stop beside the church. Most of the side streets, the Grove Hall terraces, Kitcat Terrace, Payne Road and the south end of Fairfield Road among them, are in sub-zone B2; the north end of Fairfield Road, by Bow Quarter, is in B1. Tower Hamlets' zone list gives B2's controlled hours as 8.30am to 5.30pm, Monday to Friday (B1 adds Saturday), so a Saturday or Sunday visit avoids B2's controls and costs the weekday price.
