Botany Bay first appeared in the late 1700s, after Enfield Chase was divided up, and was named half in jest after the bay where Captain Cook had landed in 1770, because it was so far from anywhere.
A hamlet where East Lodge Lane meets The Ridgeway
The Ridgeway and East Lodge Lane both appear as new roads on the 1776 survey made for the 1777 Act that divided the Chase. East Lodge, which Charles I sometimes used as a hunting seat, is now a small business park on East Lodge Lane; the old buildings have gone, and two cedars of Lebanon mark the site. Botany Bay Cricket Club, founded in 1899, is on East Lodge Lane, and the nearest station is at Crews Hill, about a mile away.
Botany Bay is too small for census figures of its own. Its homes are counted in one large rural output area that also takes in Whitewebbs Lane, Whitewebbs Road, part of Clay Hill and Bulls Cross, and in 2021 that whole stretch held 144 households: 71 in detached houses, 38 in semis and 21 in terraces. About two-thirds owned their home.
When the cooker is an AGA or a range

Parking on The Ridgeway and East Lodge Lane
The Ridgeway is the A1005, the main road from Enfield to Potters Bar and the M25; if your house is on it, room on the drive for the van helps. Botany Bay has no controlled parking zone on Enfield Council's map as archived in December 2022; the nearest, around Chase Farm Hospital, is just over a kilometre away. Zones change, so check the signs if you are unsure.

Yes. A two-oven AGA is £143 and a 90cm range is £143; a four-oven AGA is £187.
Do you charge extra at weekends?
No. A Saturday or Sunday visit is priced as a weekday, and the phone lines are open 8am to 6pm on both days.
Does someone need to be in at the end?
Yes, ideally. The oven is reassembled and heated, and you look inside before we pack up, so that any corner that is not right is cleaned there and then.
