Mayfair ovens are specified, not inherited
The lettings stock behind New Bond Street, along Brook Street, Davies Street and round Grosvenor Square, is largely Grosvenor Estate managed, and the kitchens in it were chosen by a designer rather than left by the last owner. That changes the job. The freestanding cooker has all but vanished from Mayfair lets; what comes up instead is a flush-fitted Miele or Gaggenau 60cm, often with a combination microwave and a warming drawer stacked above it in a tall run of cabinetry. Those are tighter to work on, not easier. The fascia is usually glass, the runners telescopic, and everything has to go back exactly as it was.
A good number are pyrolytic, and owners are surprised at what that does not do.

Parking on the Grosvenor Estate
Mayfair is Westminster's zone E. Paid bays and single yellow lines are controlled 0830 to 1830 Monday to Saturday, and the resident bays in sub-zone E1 are controlled 24 hours a day, every day, bank holidays included, which means that even if your building has a permit bay outside it there is no hour of the week when the van can sit in it for free. Mount Street and North Audley Street fill early. We plan for a paid bay and swallow the cost.

Will you damage a Gaggenau?
No. Nothing caustic comes into the flat. Removable parts soak in the heated tank in the van, and the cavity, fan cover and glass are degreased by hand indoors. Technicians are insured and DBS-checked.
My oven is pyrolytic. Is there any point?
Usually yes. The cycle leaves ash in the base and does nothing for the racks or the glass, which is where people actually notice the dirt. We do the parts it skips.
The managing agent is booking this, not me. Fine?
Fine. A lot of the Brook Street and Davies Street work comes through agents ahead of a check-out. We invoice them direct.
How long will you be in the flat?
Ninety minutes for a single. Add the microwave and warming drawer stack and it stretches, so tell us what is in the run.
