Bobbingworth, commonly called Bovinger, is a parish of 340 people just north-west of Chipping Ongar. Blake Hall stands in its park off Blake Hall Road; after North Weald aerodrome was bombed in September 1940 it became the RAF station headquarters. St Germain's church and the old school, built by the Capel Cure family of Blake Hall in 1855-6 and since turned into a house, are on Church Road. Bovinger Mill is a small hamlet on the Epping road.
The council houses came in pairs. In 1956 the Victoria County History counted four pairs of council houses on Gainthorps Road (now Gainsthorpe Road), two pairs on the lane to Newhouse Farm and five pairs on the east side of Moreton Bridge Road, in the parish's north-east corner beside Moreton. In 1946 the parish had taken in Ashlyns, Cold Harbour and Wardens, a detached part of High Ongar. In 2021 it had 117 households: 55.6% in a detached house, 43.6% in a semi, and 44.4% owning outright.

The VCH recorded no gas supply in the parish in 1956, and electricity only from 1951.
