The timber bell tower of St Laurence's church in Blackmore has been tree-ring dated to about 1400. The church was built as the church of an Augustinian priory founded between 1152 and 1162; Cardinal Wolsey took the priory over in 1527, and the Smyth family later bought its lands and built a house on the site, Jericho Priory.

Parking near Church Street and the alleys
Church Street, Ingatestone Road and the alleys (Bull Alley and Blacksmiths Alley) have no pavements, according to the appraisal, and The Green, the main road through the village, at times carries heavy lorries. A drive is the easiest place for the van. Yes. They share a parish with Blackmore, which took its present three-part name in 1998 after the two hamlets grew, and the ONS now counts them as part of the built-up area of Doddinghurst.
Our AGA never goes off. What do we do before the visit?
