The 1930s semi
Bexley is a driving borough. It is one of only two in London with no Underground, no DLR and no tram, and the 2023 ULEZ extension is reckoned to have caught around 21,000 vehicles here, so the kitchens we visit almost all sit behind a driveway rather than a red route. Much of the housing is interwar: Blackfen, Albany Park and the Royal Park estate were built in the 1930s by New Ideal Homesteads, cheap semis sold to families moving out from inner London.

Old Bexley and the range cookers
Old Bexley village is the other half of the job. The conservation area around the High Street and the green at St John's is a run of period cottages, and the larger detached houses toward North Cray Road and Bourne Road are where the wider cookers turn up. A five-bedroom house on North Cray Road can sit on a couple of acres and sell past a million pounds, and kitchens like that tend to run a 90cm Rangemaster or Stoves, sometimes a two-oven AGA.
Those take longer to do. Where the house has a cast-iron AGA rather than a gas range, the AGA clean around Old Bexley and North Cray is the booking to ask for, and we work to the enamel rather than blast it.
A Blackfen semi and a North Cray Road detached pay the same price on the phone. There is no premium-area surcharge in Bexley.
Getting the van close
Parking matters because the racks and shelves ride to the tank and back. Across the suburban roads in Sidcup, Welling and Barnehurst it is straightforward; the houses have front drives and the streets are wide. The catch is the town centres. Bexleyheath runs a Controlled Parking Zone through the Broadway shopping area, Zone A, Monday to Saturday from 8:30 to 5:30, and the council ran fresh CPZ consultations in 2024 around Belvedere and Slade Green stations. There is steady rental turnover across the northern half of the borough. Local agents such as Parris Residential and Robinson Jackson let across Bexleyheath, Welling, Erith and Belvedere, and an outgoing tenant or a landlord usually wants a heat-tested oven and a signed-off clean before the inventory check.
