Belmont station opened on 22 May 1865 as California, named after the California Arms across the Brighton Road, and only became Belmont on 1 October 1875. The village that grew up round it took the station's new name.
A village built after its station
Belmont did not exist before the late 19th century, and the village owed much of its growth to the Banstead Asylum nearby. The pub that lent the station its first name was rebuilt in 1955 after wartime bomb damage and has been The California again since 2014. West of the Brighton Road, north of the village, the Belmont Heights housing development stands on the site of Belmont Hospital. Its oldest buildings, from the early 1850s, were a Poor Law school for pauper children from south-east London parishes, and the hospital was demolished in the 1980s.
Belmont ward is a mix of flats and houses. At the 2021 Census it had 4,866 households, and 41.1% of them lived in a purpose-built block of flats, against 21.5% in a detached house. 65.0% owned their home, while 23.5% rented privately and 10.5% rented from the council or a housing association.

The hospital campus and the London Cancer Hub
The Royal Marsden and the Institute of Cancer Research are both part of the London Cancer Hub, which Sutton Council has worked on with its partners since 2013, and Belmont is the nearest station. The council's London Cancer Hub page lists what has opened on the site: Harris Academy Sutton and a Maggie's centre in 2019, the ICR's Centre for Cancer Drug Discovery in 2020, the Innovation Gateway in 2021 and the Royal Marsden's Oak Cancer Centre in 2023. On 4 February 2026 the council gave planning consent for the expansion led by Aviva Capital Partners and Socius: about 1 million square feet of research and laboratory space across 12 acres, with affordable homes for about 220 key workers. The council's page gives 2035 as the completion date. On 25 March 2026 it said improvement works at Belmont station were starting, and that the £14m secured in 2023 is to double the frequency of trains between Belmont and central London, with the improved service expected from December 2027.
Four in ten Belmont households live in purpose-built flats, and a flat kitchen is more likely to have the oven fitted under the worktop than at eye level.
- Built-under double
- Two ovens fitted below the worktop, with a small top oven, often the grill, over a main fan oven. It is cleaned like an eye-level double: two cavities, two doors and two sets of shelves, at £110 and about 2 hours. The double oven cleaning page has more.

The Belmont CPZ, weekdays from 10am to 6pm
Several roads near the station are in the Belmont controlled parking zone. Sutton's parking checker lists Pelton Avenue, Downs Road, Clifton Avenue, Furzedown Road, Cotswold Road, Baron Close and Bicknoller Close, and the odd numbers 241 to 273 on Brighton Road, as controlled Monday to Friday from 10am to 6pm. A weekend visit falls outside those hours. On a weekday, tell us the road and whether you have a visitor voucher, so we know where the team can park. Elsewhere, the signs on your street decide.
Belmont oven cleaning questions
Is this the Belmont near Harrow?
No. This page is Belmont in the London Borough of Sutton, SM2, between Sutton and Banstead. Belmont in Harrow has HA postcodes.
Where does Belmont end and South Sutton begin?
There is no line on the ground. Belmont ward runs north from the village towards Sutton, and the streets nearer the town centre are covered on the South Sutton page; the price is the same.
Can you clean the microwave while you are here?
Yes. A microwave is £22, added to the oven price.
What happens to the racks and trays?
They come out of the oven and are soaked and cleaned separately. The cavity, fan cover and door glass are cleaned by hand in the kitchen, and the oven is put back together and heated before we leave.

Reviews from our rounds
Nice hardworking lads that always do a good job. We used them for our old flat when moving out and for the new one now, both jobs were done very professionally. My wife is very impressed with the results and would recommend them to friends and family.
Brilliant clean, my oven looks like brand new. A 5 star clean.
I would certainly recommend this service, very efficient and good value for money. The young man did a great job and even cleaned the kitchen floor. Thank you.
