Belmont is named after a man-made hill. James Brydges, Duke of Chandos, had a mound raised at the western end of the avenue from his mansion at Canons Park, with a summer house on top, in the early 18th century; Stanmore golf course covers it now.
Semis built round Belmont Circle in the 1930s
For another two centuries this was farmland. William Loudon leased Kenton Lane Farm in 1808 and replanned its buildings round a courtyard, and the farmhouse, now listed at Grade II, still stands on Kenton Lane. The railway from Harrow to Stanmore crossed the fields from 1890, but a station opened at Belmont only in 1932, on the Harrow side of the old parish boundary. Over the rest of the decade the fields were covered with houses, and shops went up at Belmont Circle, with a cinema that opened in 1939 as the Belmont and became the Essoldo in 1950. It closed in January 1967, and a supermarket now stands on the site.
The semis still dominate. In the census area that takes in part of the Circle and this stretch of Kenton Lane (Harrow 033H), 77.8% of the 474 households lived in a semi-detached house in 2021. Another 4.0% lived in a commercial building, the census heading that takes in flats over shops.
Cookers in a Belmont semi
A 1930s semi usually has a small kitchen at the back, and many have since been knocked through or extended into the garden. How far that has gone usually decides the cooker, so it could be any of these:

St Anselm's, built with parts of a Mayfair church
St Anselm's on Uppingham Avenue was built in 1939 to 1941 to designs by N. F. Cachemaille-Day. Its stone windows, columns and some fittings came from St Anselm's in Davies Street, Mayfair, a church of 1891 that was pulled down in 1938, and it was listed at Grade II in 1999. The Harrow to Stanmore branch line closed in two stages: passenger services beyond Belmont ended in 1952 and the rest in 1964, and much of its track bed is now the Belmont Trail.
