Beckenham is in the Domesday Book of 1086 as Bacheham, and it grew as a village round St George's church and the Manor House opposite.
From Cator villas to flats
John Cator became lord of the manor in 1773. When the railway arrived from London in 1857, the Cators built on their land: large detached villas in generous gardens on wide, tree-lined avenues spreading out from the new station, then smaller houses once that market filled up. The Kelsey estate was broken up from 1911, and houses went up south of the High Street between the wars. After 1945 much of the Cator estate was rebuilt as modern houses and flats.
The High Street keeps the older layers. Bromley designated the Beckenham Town Centre conservation area on 10 June 2015, running from the war memorial roundabout to Beckenham Junction. Inside it are the Grade II George Inn, the Odeon at 296 High Street (opened in 1930 as the Regal, designed by Robert Cromie) and, in Kelsey Square, the fire station built in 1873 for the Beckenham Volunteer Fire Brigade, with attached cottages.
Most households in the town ward now live in flats. At the 2021 Census, Bromley's Beckenham Town & Copers Cope ward had 8,020 households, and 60.4% of them were in a purpose-built block. Only 10.1% had a detached house of their own.
The two ends of that mix need different cookers. A flat in a block often has a 60cm built-in single, at eye level or under the hob. A Cator-era house kept whole often has a large kitchen with room for a range. Either way, racks, trays and side runners come out and are soaked and cleaned separately, and the cavity, fan cover and door glass are degreased by hand indoors.

Parking in Beckenham's permit zones
Bromley's permit table lists two zones under the Beckenham name, BEC and F, and gives both as controlled seven days a week, Monday to Sunday, so a weekend visit does not get round them. The hours are not the same on every road: the table is undated, and Bromley's traffic orders of 2026, in operation from 10 August, extended BEC's closing time on some roads. Check the plate on your road for the current hours and tell us the street when you book. The team needs somewhere to park.

Where is the oven cleaned?
The racks, trays and side runners come out and are soaked and cleaned separately. The cavity, door glass and seals are cleaned by hand, normally in your kitchen. Some teams have a heated tank on the van and use it when they can park close; otherwise everything is done in the kitchen. The price is the same either way, so ask when you book.
Can I cancel if my plans change?
Yes, free of charge up to 24 hours before the visit. Weekends are open too, at the weekday price.

Arrived promptly and did a great job cleaning the oven, hob and extractor. They look like new now and for a very reasonable price too.
Nice hardworking lads that always do a good job. We used them for our old flat when moving out and for the new one now, both jobs were done very professionally. My wife is very impressed with the results and would recommend them to friends and family.
