In November 2012 Wandsworth Council counted 1,419 council and former council homes on the Winstanley and York Road estates north of Clapham Junction: 805 on Winstanley and 614 on York Road.
The Winstanley and York Road rebuild
Both estates are being rebuilt. The council took full control of the project in December 2024 and is raising the affordable share of the new homes from 35% to 50%. Its plan of September 2025 counted 265 new homes already delivered, 172 of them at council rent, among them Braund Mansions (126 council flats, finished in 2025) and Mitchell House, 46 affordable flats on the corner of Grant Road and Plough Road. Kiloh Court and Jackson House on Meyrick Road, Farrant House and Ganley Court are among the older blocks marked for redevelopment.
In a block, old or new, the racks, trays and side runners come out and are soaked and cleaned separately. The cavity, fan cover and door glass are degreased by hand in the kitchen, on dust sheets.
Falconbrook and Lavender wards in the 2021 Census
Falconbrook ward, which holds the two estates, had the highest share of social renting of any Wandsworth ward at the 2021 Census: 45.1% of its 5,042 households, with 80.3% living in purpose-built flats. South of Lavender Hill it is the other way round. In Lavender ward, which takes in Garfield Road, Taybridge Road and Sugden Road, 43.3% of households lived in part of a converted house, second only to South Balham in the borough, and 46.6% rented privately.
A flat cut out of a Victorian house usually has a narrow kitchen with a built-in single or a slim freestanding cooker, and above the ground floor there is a staircase between the oven and the street. Nearly half the households rent privately. For a flat being handed back, the letting agent can have the invoice in the agency's name and photos for the checkout file.
Parking in Battersea's B and C zones
Wandsworth's parking controls search shows how much the rules change from street to street. On the Winstanley estate, Winstanley Road and Meyrick Road are in zone B9, permit holders only from 10am to 11am on weekdays; Wandsworth says a one-hour zone leaves the street free for others outside its hour, subject to the yellow lines. Garfield Road is in zone C3, controlled 9.30am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday with a four-hour stay. Parts of Lavender Hill run to 6.30pm Monday to Saturday with a two-hour limit. Read the sign at the end of your street and tell us its name when you book.

Which hour should I avoid on the Winstanley estate?
10am to 11am on weekdays, when the B9 bays are for permit holders only. A booking that starts after 11am, or at the weekend, misses it.
Can the oven be cleaned in a flat I am handing back?
