Most flats on the Barbican Estate came with the oven built into the concrete kitchen, so the work here is nearly all integrated single ovens rather than freestanding cookers. Cromwell Tower, Shakespeare Tower and terrace blocks like Defoe House and Ben Jonson House were built for City professionals, and many of those original galley kitchens are still in use. What the job looks like in an EC1 flat
The dip-tank does the heavy lifting. Racks, shelves, trays and the side runners come out and soak in a heated tank in the van, which for the Barbican means the estate car park under the podium. The cavity, fan cover and door glass we degrease by hand indoors with non-caustic products, so your flat does not smell of chemicals after. The oven is heat-tested and signed off before we leave.
Integrated ovens are fiddly. The door on a built-in unit does not always split the way a freestanding one does, and space around it is tight, so a single here still runs about ninety minutes.

Prices are fixed and quoted on the phone. There is no premium-area surcharge for the Barbican, and no call-out fee inside the North and South Circular. If it is only the built-in oven and hob, our single oven clean covers most flats on the estate.
Parking and getting to the van
Because the Barbican runs its own resident parking scheme, separate from the City of London permit system, and the car parks sit deep below the podium, the van goes down there for the dip-tank while the racks travel with it in the lift and come back up clean. Over on Golden Lane the streets around Fann Street and Whitecross Street are controlled. We sort a bay first rather than circling.

Can you clean an integrated oven built into the kitchen units?
Yes, that is most of what we do on the estate. We clean the unit in place. The cavity, fan cover and glass are done by hand, and the removable parts go to the tank in the van.
Will the flat smell of chemicals afterwards?
No. The caustic soak happens in the tank in the van, outside your flat. Indoors we use non-caustic products, so there is no lingering smell.
Do you charge extra because it is the Barbican?
No. A single oven is £77 here the same as anywhere, with no call-out fee inside the North and South Circular.
