Bankside Lofts at 65 Hopton Street is a Victorian cocoa warehouse that Manhattan Loft Corporation turned into 120 flats between 1995 and 1998, and it stands a minute from Tate Modern with NEO Bankside, 230 flats over five buildings of five to twenty-three storeys, put up next door years later. That pairing is most of our work here. Warehouse conversion or new tower. Both mean flats, lifts and a concierge.
Open-plan is the reason the method matters here
The lofts were designed with double-height ceilings and exposed trunking, so the kitchen is a run of units in the corner of the room somebody sleeps and works in. There is no door to shut. If an oven were sprayed with caustic gel in that space the smell would sit in the fabric for days, which is why the racks, shelves and trays go down to the heated tank in the van and only the cavity, fan cover and door glass are done indoors, by hand, with non-caustic products. The high ceilings also put the extractor hood further up than usual, and the ducting above it collects grease long before anyone looks.
Zone C1, controlled since 1974
Bankside has had a controlled parking zone since 1974, when it was one half of Borough and Bankside; the review in 2001 split it into Bankside C1 and Borough C2 to stop drivers hopping between the two. It is also inside the Congestion Charge zone, since the southern boundary runs down at Elephant and Castle. None of that changes your price. The charge and the bay are our problem.

Most of these flats have one integrated oven. Is that the £77 job?
Yes. A single integrated oven is £77 and takes about ninety minutes. If it has two cavities behind one door front it is a double at £110, and we will tell you which on the phone if you describe it.
Can you get the van near the block?
Usually. Parts travel to the tank and back, so we want a bay within carrying distance. Tell us the entrance the concierge prefers.
Do you clean the glass between the door panels?
We split the door where the design allows and clean the inner faces. Some sealed units on newer builds cannot be opened safely, and we will say so rather than force it.
Is there a smell afterwards?
There should not be. The oven is heat-tested and signed off before we leave.

Arrived promptly and did a great job cleaning the oven, hob and extractor. They look like new now and for a very reasonable price too.
Very satisfied with the service. They were slightly late at first but I got a call from customer service to let me know, and it was all fine. The oven man, as he called himself, arrived and worked very hard for a couple of hours. My oven now looks like it has never been used.
