Arsenal played at Highbury from 6 September 1913 until 7 May 2006, and the ground it left behind is now housing. Highbury Square kept the Grade II listed East Stand with its Marble Hall and the locally listed West Stand, converted both into flats, knocked down the North Bank and the Clock End for new blocks, and turned the pitch into a garden square the flats look onto. It runs to more than 25 housing types, including duplexes, triplexes and penthouses.
Conversion flats, then the terraces behind them
A flat built into a stand in the late 2000s has a fitted kitchen with one integrated oven, which is the £77 job at around ninety minutes, and a hob at £23–28 with it. Around that sits ordinary N5: Victorian terraces broken up by post-war blocks, many of them split into upper and lower conversions with a kitchen at the back. Those vary. A refit might leave a 90cm range at £114 in a house that had a single before, so the price depends on the cooker rather than the street.
Match days move the parking
This is the bit that is particular to N5. When Arsenal host at the Emirates, Islington and Hackney run extra controls in zones E, F, G, H, J, L, N, Q and V, which stretch from the end of normal CPZ hours to 8.30pm on weekdays and cover midday to 4.30pm on Saturdays, Sundays and bank holidays. Bays near the ground get suspended, with signs going up as much as three days before. Tell us the fixture list is busy and we will work round it, because the van needs a bay within carrying distance while the racks, shelves and trays soak in the tank.

Do you charge more to come out on a match day?
No. The price is fixed on the phone whatever the fixture, with no call-out fee inside the North and South Circular.
My kitchen opens onto the living room. Will it stink?
It should not. Only non-caustic products come indoors for the cavity, fan cover and door glass; the caustic soak happens in the heated tank in the van.
Was the station always called Arsenal?
No. It opened as Gillespie Road in December 1906 and took the club name in November 1932, which is why older locals still say Gillespie Road.
How long does a double oven take?
About two hours, at £110. It is heat-tested and signed off before we leave.
