A road that flooded until 1883
The old station had opened in 1840 as Edmonton, became Water Lane in 1849 and took the name Angel Road in 1864; it ended up under the North Circular flyover. The road itself flooded, and the Victoria County History says nobody lived on it until it was made up and the stream was confined in concrete in 1883. By 1940 the council had built 164 houses on the Woolmer estate to its south. In the 1970s the same history noted heavy traffic turning off Angel Road up Montagu Road to the industrial estates.
The Shires estate stands just north of Angel Road, and the Census area that takes it in (Enfield 030C) had about 640 households in 2021. 59.1% lived in a purpose-built block of flats and 47.3% rented from the council or a housing association. Its two 1960s towers, Cheshire House and Shropshire House, have 204 homes between them and failed structural safety tests. In April 2023 the council agreed to decommission them after most residents who replied to a survey said they wanted to leave, and by October 2025 it was planning compulsory purchase orders for the leaseholders who had not sold.
Built-in ovens in the Meridian Water blocks
Meridian Water is a plan for 10,000 homes on 210 acres of old industrial land by the Lea. The first residents moved into Meridian One in September 2023; Brambling House and Greatcrest House there are named after native birds found in the area. Meridian Two, 274 affordable homes on the former gas site on Leeside Road, was topped out in December 2025 and is due to finish from early 2027.
Flats in new blocks usually have a built-in single under the worktop. Its racks and side runners come out and are soaked and cleaned separately, while the cavity, the fan cover and the door glass are degreased by hand in the kitchen. A built-in single takes about 90 minutes.

Where the van can stop near the North Circular
The A406 North Circular through Enfield is a red route under orders made in 1995 and 1996, with stopping banned at set hours or at all times depending on the stretch, so the van does not wait on it. On the council's zone boundary file as archived in December 2022, the South Edmonton event-day zone, which runs from noon to 9pm on event days at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, took in Woolmer Road, while Montagu Road, Conduit Lane and the land where Meridian One now stands were outside it. In a new block, the managing agent decides where a van may wait. Tell us the building and any loading bay when you book, since the team needs somewhere to park for the whole visit.
