Alperton's 1930s streets and its canalside blocks
The railway, which reached Alperton in 1903, and the North Circular Road (built 1921-34), which brought industry in from Park Royal, fed that interwar growth; Piccadilly line trains began running in 1932. The second boom is happening now, along the Grand Union Canal, which was cut through the village in 1801 as the Grand Junction Canal. The Mayor made Alperton a Housing Zone in 2015, and Brent's draft Local Plan has over 6,000 homes planned for the area.
The 2021 Census shows the mix. Across Alperton ward's 4,490 households, 43.2% lived in a purpose-built flat, 25.5% in a terraced house and 19.0% in a semi. In the small area round Alperton station and Rosemont Road, the flats share was 80.2%. Shared ownership, at 4.3% of the ward's households, is the second highest of Brent's 22 wards, and Minavil House alone has 215 shared-ownership flats.

New flats usually have an integrated single oven under the worktop, and often an extractor above the hob. The racks and side runners come out and are soaked and cleaned separately; the cavity, fan cover and door glass are cleaned by hand indoors, and the door is split where its design allows. The type of cooker decides the price, which is agreed on the phone before the visit. A new-build integrated single is £77; a 1930s kitchen with a double or a range is priced as that appliance.
Parking in Alperton's few controlled zones
Most of Alperton has no controlled parking zone at all on Brent's map, so on most streets there are no permit hours to plan around. The exceptions are small. Heather Park Drive, Kenmere Gardens and Mount Pleasant are in zone BA, Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 6.30pm. Riverside Gardens is in zone AB, which Brent scheduled to start on 21 September 2026, with the same weekday hours. Parts of Ealing Road north-east of the station are in zone E, which runs 8am to 9pm every day. The new blocks are a different matter: tell us the building, and whether it has visitor or loading bays, since the van needs somewhere legal to stop.

Mostly not. On Brent's map the event day zone reaches only a small north-eastern part of the ward, so most of Alperton is outside it.
