Alexandra Park Road, the broad tree-lined avenue of large Edwardian semis and detached houses running below the Palace, is where much of our N22 work is. Those houses often kept a proper family kitchen, so we see more range cookers and the odd Rangemaster here than we do in the flats further into Wood Green.
Period houses and real ranges
A big Edwardian kitchen on Priory Road or one of the streets off Alexandra Park Road usually runs a 90cm range, and a range that has done years of Sunday roasts carries baked-on fat across two cavities and a wide glass door. We lift the racks, shelves, trays and side runners out to soak in the heated tank in the van, then degrease both cavities, the fan cover and the door glass by hand indoors with non-caustic products, and the kitchen does not smell of chemicals when we go. Conservation streets and parking
The streets radiating from the Palace, Priory Road and Muswell Road among them, sit in conservation areas with a relatively intact Edwardian streetscape, and the short Alexandra Palace CPZ runs Monday to Friday from just 12 noon to 2pm at £2.60 an hour, so a mid-morning or afternoon booking usually means the van parks free right outside. On a big event day at the Palace the roads fill fast, and it is worth telling us if a gig or a fireworks night is on when you book.

I have a Rangemaster. Which price applies?
A 90cm range cooker is £114. We clean both cavities, the doors, the runners and the racks, and heat-test it before we leave.
Do you clean AGAs in the houses up here?
Yes. A two-oven AGA is £143. Tell us the model when you book so the technician brings the right kit.
Can you come on a weekday before the CPZ starts?
Yes. Morning slots suit the short lunchtime zone well, and parking is usually free right outside then.
How long does a range cooker take?
Longer than a single oven, because there are two cavities and a wide glass door, but the racks soak in the van while the hand work is done indoors.
