Who actually lives in Aldersgate
1,465 people at the last full census, which makes this one of the City's genuinely residential wards rather than an office district with a caretaker in it. The ward runs from Aldersgate Street to Noble Street and King Edward Street, and the housing is the western Barbican: Bryer Court, Bunyan Court, Andrewes House and Defoe House, whose flats look onto Aldersgate Street at the back and Beech Garden at podium level on the front.
Kitchens follow. Almost all single integrated ovens in narrow runs, plenty of them a modern unit dropped into an original opening that was never sized for it. Extractors are recirculating rather than ducted in a lot of these flats, so the filters clog fast.
Getting parts to the van
The podium is a pedestrian deck. No vehicle comes to your front door in the western blocks, so the racks, shelves, trays and side runners go down in the lift to the tank in the van, where they soak in heat while the cavity, the fan cover and the door glass are degreased indoors by hand with non-caustic products. The door is split where the design allows and the oven is heat-tested before we leave. Aldersgate is well inside the North and South Circular, so no call-out fee applies.

Very satisfied with the service. They were slightly late at first but I got a call from customer service to let me know, and it was all fine. The oven man, as he called himself, arrived and worked very hard for a couple of hours. My oven now looks like it has never been used.
