St Peter's on Aldborough Road North was built in 1862 to a design by Arthur Ashpitel, on Crown land, for the labourers who settled here after the Hainault Forest Inclosure Act of 1851 cleared the forest for farming. The church is Grade II listed, and so is a small brick building of about 1730 nearby that was once the chapel of Aldborough Hall.
Houses built north of Eastern Avenue
The Aldborough Hatch Defence Association, the local amenity group, gives the boundaries of St Peter's parish as Forest Road to the north, the Central line to the west, Hainault Road to the east and, roughly, the A12 to the south. It says much of the housing inside that line was built in the 1930s, with the Oaks Lane estate a major post-war development. Aldborough Grange, a mansion near the church, was pulled down in the 1930s and the Aldborough Grange Estate was built in its place.
The census shows a suburb of ordinary family houses. Aldborough ward had 4,981 households in 2021: 40.3% lived in a terraced house, 25.2% in a semi, 25.1% in a purpose-built flat and 5.2% in a detached house. A house of the 1930s was usually built with a modest kitchen at the back. Where one has been extended, a built-in double or a 90cm range has room to fit.

Parking near Oaks Lane and the station
On Redbridge's own map of permit parking zones, Oaks Lane, Aldborough Road North, Chiltern Road and Applegarth Drive fall outside every controlled zone. Nearer the station it changes. Torbitt Way and Northdown Gardens, just north of Eastern Avenue, are mostly in zone Newbury Park B, where permits apply from 8.30am to 8.30pm every day of the week and there is no pay and display. On those roads parking in those hours needs a permit, and the council issues visitor permits. The council's map warns that times change, so read the signs on your own road. Arrived promptly and did a great job cleaning the oven, hob and extractor. They look like new now and for a very reasonable price too.
Very satisfied with the service. They were slightly late at first but I got a call from customer service to let me know, and it was all fine. The oven man, as he called himself, arrived and worked very hard for a couple of hours. My oven now looks like it has never been used.
Nice hardworking lads that always do a good job. We used them for our old flat when moving out and for the new one now, both jobs were done very professionally. My wife is very impressed with the results and would recommend them to friends and family.
