Albany Park is a name a builder made up. New Ideal Homesteads coined it in the mid-1930s for the estate it laid out on Tanyard and Hurst Farms, land that had belonged to the Vansittart family of Foots Cray.
Semis south of Hurst Road
The estate was centred on the ground south of Hurst Road. New Ideal Homesteads were the biggest builder in north-west Kent at the time, cut costs with prefabricated materials, and priced houses here from as little as £395. Ownership is still high. Around Steynton Avenue (census area Bexley 024C), 62.0% of the 673 households were in a semi in 2021, and 88.4% owned their home, 49.7% of all households owning outright.

Every property on Steynton Avenue, Cotleigh Avenue, Carisbrooke Avenue, Stansted Crescent and Longmead Drive is in the council's Albany Park Station parking zone, as are Nos 347 to 481 and 296 to 368 Hurst Road. The council lists the roads but not the hours; its page says the controlled hours are shown on the entry signs. Outside the controlled hours anyone may park in the bays without charge; inside them, visitors display a scratch card (the council sells them in booklets of ten) in an on-street bay, so check the sign before you book.

Someone needs to let us in and look at the lit oven at the end. A single takes about 90 minutes on site and a double about two hours.

Usually the racks, the side runners and the glass. The first two come out and are soaked and cleaned separately, and the door is split by hand where the design allows.
Can you come on a Saturday?
Yes, seven days a week at the weekday price. On a zone street, the sign tells you whether Saturday is controlled.
