Addington still keeps its old village core around Addington Palace, the 18th-century mansion that was the summer home of the Archbishops of Canterbury from 1807 to 1897, and the older detached houses near the palace grounds are where the range cookers and the occasional AGA turn up. The council expanded the Addington Village Conservation Area in 2019 to take in the palace grounds and the parkland, so a fair share of our CR0 work up here is the larger period and interwar houses along Addington Road and the lanes off it. The clean runs to the same routine every time. On a standard oven the racks, shelves, trays and side runners lift out and soak in a heated tank in the van, while the cavity, fan cover and door glass are degreased by hand indoors with non-caustic products. The door is split where the design allows so the inner pane comes clear. Then the oven is heat-tested and signed off before we leave.

Parking is rarely a problem in Addington. The village roads and the estate streets both have room, and the Tramlink stops at Addington Village and Fieldway mean a technician can reach the estate side without the van if a job needs it.
